Digital Diary Detailing Datamancer's Deeds

Hey everyone, The SciFi Channel’s new Warehouse 13 TV show contacted me a while back to do some prop work for them and one of my keyboards is featured in the show (the Sojourner keyboard I built for my girlfriend 2 Christmases ago, to be exact). The show looks like it is going to be pretty funny. Appearing to be partially inspired by the closing scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it’s about 2 FBI agents who are charged with protecting a giant Warehouse full of strange and supernatural artifacts that have been locked away for the protection of the public. The storytelling style seems to be very lighthearted and quirky and I hope the show becomes very popular so they commission me to build them some more elaborate contraptions for future seasons (I’m actually designing a Version 2.0 of my old Computational Engine PC right now with them in mind). The show comes on tonight (7/7/09) at 9pm (Pacific). The pic below is from Wired.com.

I thought that keyboard looked strangely familiar when I saw the previews for Warehouse 13.

Good to see. Looking forward to the show.

The keyboard, WACOM tablet, LCD monitor and 2 way TV communicators jumped out at me right away (Sorry, I thought they were Jake Von Slatt’s) and looked great! I think reminds me more of the old Friday the 13th, the series TV show (87-90) where two cousins inherit an old antique store (Curious Goods) and have to retrieve cursed antiques and lock them up in the vault. I hope you get more work out of the show.

That is way cool. I spotted the keyboard right away. In a prior lifetime, I actually designed typewriters (yeah, I’m old). I first thought was “I gotta have one” and started thinking about how to make one. Old junk typoewriters for the keys, check. Old heavy PC keyboard for the base, check. Hmmm, how to make the keys typwriters didn’t have like F-keys? Then I found your page. It’s not just a prop! It actually works! Kudos to you!
