Digital Diary Detailing Datamancer's Deeds

I watched Warehouse 13 the other night and thought the show was rather good! If I had to describe it, I guess I’d say it’s “X-Files mixed with the old Friday the 13th TV series, with a splash of Eureka”. Some of the character backgrounds were introduced a bit ham-handedly but that’s to be expected with a pilot episode. They have a very short amount of time to introduce the characters, flesh them out, lay out the general storyline of the series, weave the episode plot, show off as many props and effects as they can while still making it funny and interesting and I think they managed to strike a decent balance with it.
I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive responses from the steampunk and sci-fi community and am quite flattered by how many people were out there cheering for me. Thanks so much, everyone!

I found some great screen captures of the keyboard in action on notcot.com. Click the photo below to see the original post and some larger images.

Just watched the show on Hulu. The keyboard looks amazing. I’ve loved your work ever since I saw it on BoingBoing.net. Way to go!

I thought the show was pretty good. When I watched it I didnt realise the keyboard was yours, but I knew it sure looked like it came from you. Congrats on them asking you, and hope they come back for more!

I quite honestly flipped out because I knew straight away it was your keyboard.

I found Warehouse 13 on HULU and loved it. I noticed the keyboard and quickly did a search for “antique keyboard”. Listed was http://steampunkworkshop.com/keyboard.shtml who kindly listed you as the creator of the much improved version.
Great job getting on SyFy! I hope you get more jobs creating things.

I watched the show just to see the keyboard as it is the same keyboard you made for me last Christmas (other than the change to the oak background that my husband asked for to match my desk.) I LOVE my keyboard and get lots of comments on it when people see it in my office at work. I highly recommend it.

Hello Again, Karen! Glad to hear the keyboard is still serving you well. Thanks for the sparkling testimonial! We’ll have to get you that matching monitor soon! :)

Love your work. Did you make the touchpad that was used in Warehouse 13? If so, any details you can provide about it? I am going to try & make one using the new Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch. Curious about the way the touchpad was mounted to the underside & such.

Keep up the great work & get those kits put together for the do-it-yourself-ers!

Thanks, nkroger! I didn’t make the rest of the gadgets for the show, just the keyboard, but I have modded a wacom in the past. Take a look at my Archbishop PC at http://www.datamancer.net/archbishop/archbishop.htm and scroll down to the big bible. The best method is to keep as much of the plastic shell intact as you can, just because the cabling that connects the interface PCBoard to the rest of the circuit is sort of flimsy. You can actually get away with covering the contact surface of the wacom with a very thin material like paper or light cloth and the pen/mouse will still work. I haven’t looked at the Bamboo, but if it allows you to use your fingers as well as the pen/mouse, then it probably works on capacitance, meaning you can cover it with anything that’s thin and non-metallic.
