| This
is a faux leather case for my laptop, designed to look like a medieval
grimoire, or spellbook, sorta like the thing to the right |

This
is my laptop.
Those
little squares are velcro. |
|
| I
started with a big 3-ring photo binder from the craft store, sliced
it apart, trimmed it to size, moved the metal corner supports to
the "front" of the book, and restitched the edges |
|
| This
pic shows one of the covers cut to size and restitiched |
|
| Both
of them trimmed.... |
|
| I
got some hinges from the local hardware megastore. |
|
| |
|
| I
layed them out, aligned them, clamped them, and after a few quick
welds and grinds, we've got a cool clunky-looking medieval book
spine |
|
| Here's
the spine layed in place |

Above
is the rough design for the metal plate that will adorn the spine.
The red line indicates where there will be a cutout for a small
door that will fold down for access to the rear plugs.

The
laptop I was using for this project broke shortly after
the above photos were taken (unrelated, documented design
flaw in the HP Pavilions) and the Teknogroimoire was absorbed
back into the pool of primordial creative ooze that is
my workshop. I later sunk a few hundred
dollars into parts to repair the laptop, and it eventually
became the core of "Datamancer's Steampunk Laptop". The
leather for the wrist rests on the laptop was also cut
from the covers of this grimoire.
